Kolkata: As part of a food safety drive, the KMC health dept has inspected several star hotel properties in the past two days. The KMC team of food inspectors on Wednesday visited two well-known star hotels on EM Bypass. The visit, however, found no adulteration in food or contamination in ingredients, a KMC source said. Similarly, the KMC team on Thursday visited a star hotel property in the Alipore area and inspected the kitchen for hours. A KMC food safety inspector said the team found nothing objectionable. “In less than 24 hours we have inspected three major star category hotels and found the foodstuff fit for consumption. We have also checked the cooking ingredients and found nothing objectionable,” said a KMC health dept official.
According to a KMC source, the civic food inspectors also visited the fish and meat sections of New Market on Thursday but hardly found anything that flouted the food safety standard. “We followed the food safety norms and checked the fish and meat segment of the New Market in detail. Nothing could be found objectionable,” said a KMC food inspector.
Sources in ITC Hotels said that there has been an inspection by the KMC food safety team, but they have not found anything objectionable. An official of Taj Bengal also added that, like many other star hotels, the KMC team visited Taj as well. But no irregularity was found. Sources close to J W Marriott also added that the team has not found anything that violates the food safety standard.
