• Rain, clouds bring Kol max down to 31.2°C

  • Kolkata: A low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal brought a couple of spells of light-moderate rain to the city and suburbs on Monday. While the system is on its way to Jharkhand, the Met office expects similar rain on Tuesday, too. The rain, along with the cloud cover, kept the mercury under control with the maximum temperature dipping to 31.2°C, 1.5 notches lower than the normal. It was 33.4°C on Sunday.

    “We are not expecting heavy showers but can’t rule out some light-moderate rain. The Aug rain count for Kolkata so far is a bit higher than normal,” said H R Biswas, head at RMC, Kolkata.

    The Alipore Met office recorded 8.1 mm of rain till late evening on Monday. The rain, along with the cloud cover, kept the mercury under control with the maximum temperature at 31.2°C, 1.5 notches lower than the normal.
