Kolkata: Bengal govt has issued citizenship certificates to 23,000 people out of 2.3 lakh CAA applicants, CM Suvendu Adhikari said on Monday. He also stated that the state govt would soon complete the hearings of the remaining applications.
“I would like to thank Union home minister Amit Shah for granting permission for hearing and issuing CAA certificates. Out of 2.3 lakh applicants in the state, 23,000 people got certificates. We hope to conduct the hearing and issue the certificates soon through district magistrates,” CM said.
“Centre has allocated power to us. The responsibility is now with the state govt. Hindu refugees will get the certificate. It is our commitment,” Adhikari said.
He also stated that those who did not apply under the CAA can now make their applications. “By completing the hearing rapidly, we will also be able to issue certificates to the refugees who came from Bangladesh due to religious persecution. Hindu refugees and Matuas who brought us to office… you will receive the certificate from me,” the CM said.
