  • Kolkata: National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), an autonomous self-regulatory body under the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, is in talks with Bengal govt to introduce an AI-powered building plan approval system in Kolkata and other urban areas. A similar system is being tried in Mumbai.

The council, which acts as a bridge between govt and realtors, is also looking to expand its operations in Bengal.

In Kolkata for a session by Nova Realtime Solutions, NAREDCO director Viresh Pandey said: “Civic bodies like KMC can use AI to review compliance and check the building plans before approval.”

Several realtors based in Japan, the Gulf and Korea were interested in expanding their business in Kolkata, Pandey said and added that the council would urge the state to hold an investors’ summit in the real estate sector. “Japanese companies like Panasonic Housing Corporation, Mitsubishi Estates, Bahrain-based Infracorp and Korean companies are exploring business opportunities to invest in real estate sector here,” he said.
