  • Kolkata: Police have questioned 16 persons, including Sealdah court public prosecutor Dilip Kumar Ram, over allegedly locking the Entally PS during a protest in the wee hours of Independence Day.

Those questioned include Ram’s brother Sudeep Ram and several BJP workers. “We have sent them notices and asked them to join the probe. We have collected evidence based on which they were summoned,” said a police source.

Police claimed the Ram brothers denied involvement, saying the station was already locked when they arrived.

The protest followed a clash between two BJP factions over the alleged removal of a “khuti” installed for Khuti Puja at Paddapukur Maidan. The FIR said protesters locked the station’s main entrance, obstructing police personnel and the public for nearly one and a half hours.

The FIR, registered suo motu on a complaint by Entally PS SI Prasenjit Paul, invoked BNS sections 189(1), 189(2), 190, 221, 224 and 352. A separate FIR was lodged after unidentified persons allegedly uprooted the khuti of a Durga Puja being organised for the first time at Paddapukur Maidan.
