KOLKATA: A scuffle broke out between a school student and a female non-teaching staff member over the issuance of a transfer certificate (TC) at Jagdala High School in Bamangola, Malda.
The staff member, who joined the school a year and a half ago, said a former student had requested a certificate with the corrected spelling of his name. However, she refused, explaining that the document could only be issued according to the official school records.
She alleged that several students entered the staffroom and physically assaulted her, claiming that acting headmaster Amit Halder and another assistant teacher had instigated the attack. Following the incident, she was taken to Mudipukur Rural Hospital in Bamangola for treatment. She also lodged a police complaint.
Fresh unrest broke out at the hospital when supporters of the non-teaching staff member allegedly assaulted the acting headmaster and another teacher in retaliation. The injured staff member was subsequently transferred to Malda Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. She filed additional police complaints against two other teachers, Noni Roy and Bimal Pal.
Furthermore, she alleged that since her appointment, she had uncovered several financial irregularities at the school, including irregularities in the Mid-Day Meal scheme, in which the Teacher-in-Charge (TIC) was allegedly involved. She claimed that when she protested against the alleged corruption, the acting TIC sexually harassed her and made inappropriate proposals. However, Halder dismissed all the allegations as completely baseless.
