Kolkata: A criminal case has been registered against a Bansdroni resident for posting allegedly offensive and hate comments on Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.
Debojyoti Majumdar, co-convener of BJP Swasthya Pariseva Cell, lodged a complaint against Ankit Sharma, referred to as Ankit Shaw in the complaint, at the Bansdroni PS, saying he, entered into a criminal conspiracy with others and posted “hate-filled, obscene and inflammatory comments on Facebook” on Aug 5. The post on allegations about the Ram Mandir funds, claimed Majumdar, was intended at hurting religious sentiments and provoking public disharmony.
He urged police to initiate proceedings against Shaw for attempting to outrage religious feelings and spread hatred online through defamatory statements, targeting a constitutional dignitary.
Police officers confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway. Technical experts from the cyber unit are examining the accused’s social media activity and digital footprints to verify the authenticity of the posts. Law enforcement officials stated that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
