KP proposes traffic guard reshuffle to ease congestion

Kolkata: Several key road stretches in the city may soon be brought under new traffic guards to improve traffic movement and reduce response time. A proposal has been sent to Lalbazar. A final decision is expected this week.
One of the main changes being considered is the transfer of the Park Circus Connector stretch, between 4 Number Bridge and Gobinda Khatik Road, from East Traffic Guard to Park Circus Traffic Guard.
Police said East Traffic Guard already handles several busy stretches, including parts of AJC Bose Road, and is often occupied with school traffic. Because of this, sergeants are not always able to reach the Park Circus Connector quickly.
According to sources, Park Circus Traffic Guard is better placed to manage the stretch.
Another proposed change involves roads around Kalighat Temple. These roads may be handed back to Tollygunge Traffic Guard from Bhowanipore. Since important crossings near the temple, including Rashbehari crossing, are already managed by Tollygunge Traffic Guard, officers said it would be easier for it to handle the temple roads as well.
A third proposal is to shift the Karunamoyee Bridge-Siriti area from Thakurpukur Traffic Guard to James Long Sarani guard. Police said James Long Sarani Traffic Guard is closer to the area, while it takes longer for sergeants from Thakurpukur to reach Karunamoyee Bridge.
