Bike-borne miscreats open fire at 3 in Nalhati, 2 critical

Suri: Three persons were shot by motorcycle-borne assailants in Birbhum’s Nalhati on Sunday night, leaving two critically injured.
The incident took place near Haridaspur village under Nalhati police station limits, where Viki Sheikh, Habibul Sheikh and Joni Sheikh were allegedly fired upon by unidentified assailants who arrived on three motorcycles with their faces covered. The trio was rushed to Rampurhat Medical College, while Viki and Joni were later shifted to a private hospital in Durgapur.
Police recovered 10 spent cartridges and a live round from the spot. Though the motive is yet to be established, sources suspect the attack may be linked to the illegal explosives trade for stone mines. Viki was previously arrested in a related case.
“An FIR has been lodged. Our officers started the investigation immediately. Some important clues had been found,” said Birbhum police super Vidit Raj Bhundesh.
