West Bengal extends G+5 construction freeze till August 15, reconstitutes Taratala collapse probe panel

Construction on G+5 and taller buildings across West Bengal will remain suspended until August 15 as the state completes safety checks on ongoing high-rise projects.
The extension covers commercial, residential, institutional and other building projects. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal issued the order on Friday.
The order said the suspension would remain in force while site verification, construction quality audits and technical reviews are carried out.
The state government said the checks were required in the interest of public safety.
The government has also reconstituted the High-Level Inquiry Committee examining the June 24 Taratala warehouse collapse.
Public Works Department Secretary Antara Acharya will chair the committee.
The panel will have representatives from the Urban Development Department, Disaster Management Department, Labour Department and Fire & Emergency Services.
Kolkata Police and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation will also be represented.
Technical and infrastructure organisations RITES, IRCON and IIT Kharagpur have been included in the reconstituted committee.
