  • Kolkata: Police, bank officials and the I-T department have launched a probe after an unexplained Rs 47 crore was credited to the bank account of a cloud kitchen owner in Beleghata.

The account holder, Nupur Gupta, who runs a home-delivery food business, approached Beleghata police on Thursday after discovering the deposit. She told police she had no knowledge of the source of the funds.

The incident surfaced after online transactions to Gupta’s account suddenly stopped and customers reported payment failures. Her state-owned bank informed her that the account had been frozen on I-T department directives after the Rs 47 crore transaction was flagged.

Police sought transaction logs, sender details and routing history. Preliminary probe suggests Gupta’s account may have been compromised by cyber crooks to park illicit funds. Police are probing possible leakage of account details and examining electronic logs.
