• Man distracts NGO staff, steals phones

  • Kolkata: An unidentified man allegedly sneaked into an NGO office in central Kolkata and stole multiple high-end mobile phones after distracting employees during office hours on Wednesday.

    The theft occurred between 3.25 pm and 4 pm at Sarba Shanti Ayog, located on the first floor of 48B, Dr Sundori Mohan Avenue, under Beniapukur PS.

    According to NGO executive Roshni Mukherjee, 58, the man, aged around 30, approached employees individually, claiming that his mother wanted to meet them. When told they were busy, he moved from desk to desk and entered several rooms, repeating the same story.

    After he left, employees discovered their phones missing. CCTV footage allegedly showed the man pocketing the devices while moving through the office. The stolen phones include a black Samsung Galaxy M35 belonging to Mukherjee and a blue Realme Narzo belonging to a colleague.

    Mukherjee lodged a complaint with Beniapukur PS. Police registered a case under Section 305(a) of the BNS and are examining CCTV footage to identify the suspect.
