Truck violates no-entry zone, hits couple in Siliguri

Siliguri: A speeding truck breached no-entry restrictions imposed for chief minister Suvendu Adhikari’s visit to North Bengal and ran over a couple near Uttarkanya on Monday, leaving both seriously injured. The injured were Pradeep Goswami and Lakshmi Goswami of Jalpaiguri, who were rushed to a private hospital. Lakshmi’s condition remains critical. The truck driver, who claimed brake failure, was arrested and the vehicle seized. Locals briefly blocked the road in protest. Siliguri Police Commissioner C Sudhakar banned goods vehicles on Phulbari Bypass-Noukaghat stretch from 8 am to 9 pm. Probe is on.
