Police launch probe into ‘abduction, extortion’ in Bhangar

Kolkata: Police launched an investigation into a case of alleged abduction, assault and extortion stemming from political rivalry in Bazarait area under Bodra Police Station jurisdiction in Bhangar.
According to police, the case was registered following a signed written statement by Aslam Sekh, a resident of Bazarait in Shanksahar, claiming that he was kidnapped by ISF-backed goons, a charge denied by ISF functionaries. In his complaint, Sekh alleged that on the evening of July 19 around 8 pm, a group of individuals trespassed into his house.
The complainant named five primary suspects — Abdul Aziz Molla, Sofik Molla, Asraf Molla, Mohatali Molla and Firoz Molla — along with 15 to 20 unidentified accomplices, all hailing from the same village.
Sekh stated that the accused acted with common intention, forcefully abducted him from his home and physically assaulted him. He was then allegedly taken to an ISF party office located near Uttar Para Bazarait Jama Masjid, where he was unlawfully confined.
The attackers allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from him as extortion, citing political rivalry as the underlying motive. Police officers confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to apprehend the named accused and verify the allegations.
