Kolkata: Centre on Thursday approved a six-month extension for Bengal chief secretary Manoj Agarwal. Agarwal was scheduled to retire on July 31.
His extension will be effective from Aug 1 to Jan 31, 2027, according to an order by the Centre’s department of personnel and training.
The Bengal govt had sent a proposal seeking an extension for Agarwal on July 15. Agarwal was appointed state chief secretary on May 11.
A 1990-batch IAS officer, Agarwal is a mechanical engineering graduate. He started his career as ADM of Burdwan and went on to serve significant posts including principal secretary in personnel, administrative reforms, food and supplies, fire and emergency services, as well as the state chief electoral officer.
