Kolkata: Kolkata Police has started identifying spots where parking at night will be allowed after paying the necessary fees to KMC. Following the directives from the govt, the list will be prepared and handed over to KMC.
Traffic cops said that those areas which lead to slower traffic movement, or those spots where passage of ambulances and fire brigades get hampered, will be removed from the list. “We will also earmark the time within which the parked vehicles have to be removed so that traffic movement is not hampered. Illegal parking on the roads at night will be identified too,” said a cop.
Police stated that once the basic survey is over and KMC approves of the same, the raids will begin before the festival season gets over. “The plan is to carry out joint raids before Durga Puja. This will help us streamline night parking before Christmas,” said a senior officer.
To avail the night parking facility, an application has to be made to the KMC parking department with the name, address, contact number, car registration number, road name and details of the spot where the night parking is intended. Along with the application, a few documents like a photocopy of the car blue book, photocopy of the PAN card, copy of the Aadhaar card and an NOC has to be provided.
