  • Agartala: The Tripura chapter of the All India Services (AIS) Associations on Wednesday strongly condemned remarks reportedly made by leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury against South Tripura superintendent of police Mourya Krishna C, IPS, during a CPM agitation.

Deeming the comments inappropriate and inconsistent with a constitutional role, a joint statement issued by the IAS, IPS, and IFS associations raised concerns over allegations that Chaudhury called the serving IPS officer an “idiot” while he was fulfilling his official duties.

The associations asserted that the SP has been carrying out his responsibilities in line with the law, emphasizing that personal attacks on officers acting in good faith undermine public trust in institutions and dent the morale of the administration.

While acknowledging the right of elected representatives to scrutinize govt decisions, the statement stressed the importance of maintaining respect in public discourse and avoiding derogatory comments against officers.

The associations pointed out that this was not an isolated case, alleging that Chaudhury had made unverified and offensive remarks against multiple senior govt officials in the past.

“Such repeated personal attacks damage the dignity of public institutions and could deter officers from performing their duties with impartiality,” the statement read. Calling for restraint and accountability, the AIS associations urged the leader of opposition to retract his statements and extend a public apology.

They also appealed to political leaders across party lines to uphold civility, mutual respect, and decorum in public discussions to ensure the effective functioning of democratic institutions.

The statement was jointly signed by Rajesh Kumar Das for the IAS Association, R Daribing for the IPS Association, and S Prabhu for the IFS Association (Tripura chapters).
