Induction of 3 Trinamool MPs into BJP ‘necessity’: Suvendu

Kolkata/Mecheda: After Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya described the party’s induction of three ex-Trinamool MPs into BJP “an exception”, CM Suvendu Adhikari described it as a “necessity” while addressing party members and supporters at a meeting in East Midnapore on Sunday.
According to sources, Adhikari told the party cadre that the induction of Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Susmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik was out of “necessity”, assuring them that such inductions won’t happen at the ground level.
Around 1,500 party workers, including the East Midnapore organisational vice-presidents, MPs, MLAs and panchayat representatives were present at the meeting that took place around 4pm at Regal Guest House near Mecheda.
Earlier, Samik Bhattacharya had described the inductions as an “exception”. “There will be exceptions and exceptions prove the law,” he had said, adding that a political party needs to adapt to exceptional circumstances and characters.
On Sunday, speaking at a meeting of industry bodies, Bhattacharya said, “There won’t be Trinamool-isation of BJP. People have tested them,” adding that the party’s doors will remain shut to Trinamool.
“Trinamool won’t join BJP. Our doors are closed for them. People have given us two-thirds mandate and they voted against Trinamool. They are known as ones who run syndicates. Why should BJP induct them?” he asked.
Bhattacharya had earlier said the party had learnt its lesson from the pre-2021 mass defections and would only selectively accommodate “taint-free” members.
Meanwhile, the CM, at the East Midnapore meeting declared that extortion had stopped and syndicate raj had come to an end. No false case is slapped on common people or opposition party workers, he said.
Adhikari further said that while the previous govt took nine months to provide financial assistance under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, nearly 1.2 crore women have already started receiving funds under Annapurna Bhandar.
He further said that the govt would observe Aug 16, the day it completes 100 days in office, as Ayushman Bharat day.
