  • Kolkata: A video of two traffic officials, including a sergeant, has gone viral after an alleged incident near Narkeldanga bridge on Wednesday morning.

Locals claimed that a young biker was injured after a traffic sergeant allegedly kicked him while he was riding. They said the rider lost balance, fell on the road, and was taken to hospital.

The Beleghata traffic guard denied the allegation. A police officer said they were carrying out a regular helmet-checking drive in the area. According to the officer, the young rider was not wearing a helmet and tried to escape when police asked him to stop. The officer said the rider fell in a hurry and injured himself and a woman pedestrian. Police said no officer kicked him.

The incident led to anger among locals, bikers, and bystanders. Some even confronted the traffic officials at the spot and demanded action if the allegation is proved. The video also drew strong reactions online, with more than 10,000 views and hundreds of comments.

Police have started a probe and are checking CCTV footage and other evidence to find out what happened.

A police officer said riding without a helmet is dangerous for riders, other motorists, and pedestrians. Police have asked the traffic control room to find the exact sequence of events. They also want to check whether any part of the online content was AI-generated.

Kolkata Traffic Police have urged people to be careful and responsible on roads.
