Javed Rahaman, a land dealer and employee of the Asansol Municipal Corporation posted at the Kulti Borough office, was shot dead last night when two assailants opened fire on him at close range in Neamatpur, under Kulti police station.
Police sources said that around 10.30 p.m, while Rahaman was walking home, two men on a motorbike were lying in wait and fired at him from behind before fleeing.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage has already gone viral. Rahaman was rushed to Asansol District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Kulti police station has launched an investigation and initiated combing operations. According to police sources, the killing is suspected to be linked to a land dispute. CCTV footage from the area is being thoroughly examined.
At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made in connection with the case.
