Trinamul Congress today condemned the derogatory statement made by BJP leader Ramesh Biduri against party’s MP Mahua Moitra and asked the saffron party leaders to explain their silence on the issue.
The party on its X handle wrote: “When the Prime Minister @ narendramodi himself stooped to insult a women Chief Minister, it became clear, misogyny is not a stray incident in BJP, it is the official culture.”
Trinamul Women Congress chairperson Chandrima Bhattacharya said it has become a culture of the BJP to make derogatory statements against women. “Before 2021 Assembly election Modi had addressed Mamata Banerrjee as ‘didi o didi’. And people have seen how badly the BJP was defeated in the election. More they make derogatory comments against women leaders, the poorer will be their result in the election.”
Sayoni Ghosh, Trinamul Congress MP, said: “If the BJP is really against those who make derogatory statements against women, then they should take action against the errant leader Biduri. But the leaders are absolutely silent on the matter and the silence shows that the leaders have given tacit support to the foulmouthed leaders.”
