  • Arup Singh Sardar (35), a resident of Pirgoria village under Manbazar police station in Purulia district, died after falling from the rooftop of his rented house in Odisha.

He had been working as a migrant labourer in a private factory in the Domenjuri –Bejaput area of Odisha for the past seven years. He leaves behind his widow, two children and elderly parents.

He was the sole breadwinner of the family.

“He used to visit his native village about four times a year and had said he would return this Durga Puja. Normally, he brought home his savings every three months. Last Sunday, we heard he had fallen from a rooftop and was taken to hospital, but he could not be saved. It is not clear whether it was an accident or a murder. We were shocked to receive the news over the phone from Odisha,” said his elderly father, Thaukurdas Singh Sardar.

Arup worked as a welder in the private factory. The family has urged the state government to provide compensation. In recent times, there have been several unnatural deaths of migrant labourers outside the state.
