• Rainy weather to continue over next two days

  • Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in some districts of North Bengal over the next two days due to favourable wind patterns and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, according to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD on Thursday.

    Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of speeds up to 40 kmph are also very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts in South Bengal, including Kolkata.

    Though a low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast continued, it would not have much impact over West Bengal. Heavy rainfall of between 7 and 11 cm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal. thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely.

    The bulletin indicated that this sort of weather would continue till Sunday, after which there would be a moderate let-up in rainy weather, with sunshine dominating most of the day on Monday.

    The city witnessed light to moderate rainfall throughout the day on Thursday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at 31 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively. The forecast for Friday read: Generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
