• College student shot dead in her house by ‘ex-friend’ in Bengal’s Nadia

  • A 19-year-old college student was shot dead at point-blank range allegedly by a man whom she was in a relationship with, in her house in Manikpara locality of Nadia district’s Krishnanagar area on Monday, police said.

    The victim was reportedly trying to end the relationship with the suspect, identified as Devraj Singh, who is at large, they added.

    The incident occurred in the afternoon when the victim just entered her house located opposite Krishnanagar Women’s College.

    She suffered two bullet injuries, Krishnanagar police district Superintendent of Police (SP) K Amarnath said.

    Her mother and brother were home at the time. After hearing a loud noise, her mother ran toward the spot and saw a man, believed to be Devraj, fleeing with a firearm, it was claimed.

    The victim was rushed to Shaktinagar District Hospital, where she was declared dead.

    The body was sent for post-mortem examination.

    Devraj is believed to have a heated argument with the victim before opening fire at her, police said.

    SP Amarnath said, “She was found lying in a pool of blood in a room by her mother. The suspect was also known to her brother and thus would visit the house. The 19-year-old had finished her higher secondary in 2023 and was preparing for NEET. She was supposed to start college from Tuesday.”

    The suspect also stayed close to the victim’s house, it is learnt.
