  • Kolkata: Trinamool Congress will participate in the Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, alongside other INDIA bloc parties, on Sept 1. However, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are unlikely to attend due to "prescheduled engagements", according to party sources. The ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra' will culminate on Sept 1 after travelling 1,300 kms across Bihar for 15 days.

Party sources said Trinamool and Congress have coordinated on multiple issues, as was seen during the recent monsoon session of Parliament. SIR-related protests against the Election Commission — proposed by CM Banerjee during TMC's July 21 rally — were also carried out by TMC and Congress in close coordination, sources said.

TMC also took a strong stand in the Parliament against the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill. "We had opposed the very introduction of the Bill. Once tabled, this black bill gets a cloak of acceptability. We refuse to accept even that. We also refused to take part in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), as the bill is a farce," said a senior leader. Trinamool's stand on JPC found support from Samajwadi Party, AAP, and the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena. | Gold Rates Today in Kolkata | Silver Rates Today in Kolkata
