Kolkata: In a recent case of cyber fraud, which cops suspect might be a SIM swap, Shyampukur PS received an unusual case recently where the accused used the defrauded money to book tickets and other travel-related bookings through a popular travel website-cum-app.
A case was initiated following a written complaint by Sandip Kumar Rathi (49), a resident of Bagbazar. According to the complaint, on July 16, between 11.30 am and 2.17 pm, unidentified individuals allegedly sent a malicious link to Rathi which allowed them to gain control over his mobile phoneto manipulate his online account for their personal benefit. Unauthorized transactions amounting to Rs 2,90,518 were done using Rathi's credit card through a popular travel booking platform around 1 pm on Aug 23 when Rathi was at his Girish Avenue residence in Baghbazar.
