The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday night raided the house of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Dr Sudipta Ray in connection with their probe into alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, in Kolkata.
Ray, who was also the chairman of RG Kar hospital’s ‘Rogi Kalyan Samiti’, when a trainee woman doctor was raped and murdered on August 9 last year, was not present at his house during the raid.
The CBI team, accompanied by two officers involved in the case, started searching his residence and nursing home in north Kolkata’s Sinthir More area. CBI sources said the raid may continue throughout the night.
According to CBI sources, the raid is related to the RG Kar corruption case.
This is not the first time Ray’s house has been raided by the CBI. A year ago, the investigating agency had raided his residence and nursing home, seizing three mobile phones. Ray was questioned but not arrested.
The RG Kar corruption case has already led to the arrest of former principal Sandip Ghosh and four others, Afsar Ali, Ashish Pandey, Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra, who are currently in jail custody.
