• Drizzle pulls down Kol max-min temp gap to 2°C

  • Kolkata: The city remained cloudy with intermittent drizzles on a wet Saturday, even as the Met office predicted more rain over the next 48 hours under the impact of a low-pressure system and an active monsoon trough. A thick cloud cover pulled the maximum temperature down to 27.2°C and narrowed the difference with the minimum temperature to less than two degrees. The minimum was 25.6°C on Saturday.

The drizzles will gradually turn infrequent from Monday, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). "The low-pressure over Gangetic Bengal and the monsoon trough, which now passes through the centre of this system, have triggered the rain. It should turn infrequent, though light rain and thunderstorms will continue to occur across south Bengal. The coastal districts will receive rain till Monday," said RMC weather scientist Sourish Bandpadhyay.

A bulletin issued by the RMC on Sunday said: "Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, a low-pressure area formed over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood on Friday. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west northwestwards across Jharkhand over the next 24 hours and weaken gradually.
