Kolkata: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will inspect the Yellow Line's airport section on Saturday. PM Narendra Modi is due to open the Noapara-Airport or Phase I of the Yellow Line on Aug 22.
Initially, Metro Railway planned the 3.4 km Noapara-Dum Dum Cantonment stretch, which received CRS approval last year, as the Yellow Line's Phase I. However, at the behest of Metro Railway general manager P Uday Kumar Reddy, Phase I was extended by another 3.6 km so that Kolkata could have its maiden metro connectivity to the airport at the earliest.
The CRS, NF Circle, will be inspecting the 3.6 km stretch from Dum Dum Cantonment to Jaihind Bimanbandar (airport), since the other 3.4 km already has the mandatory safety approval for revenue operations. The CRS is supposed to undertake a trolley inspection between the Dum Dum Cantonment and Airport stations. He will also take a train ride along the stretch.
