Kolkata: Thousands of headmasters and headmistresses of state-aided schools across Bengal staged a demonstration at Salt Lake's Karunamoyee on Tuesday and marched to Bikash Bhavan, the state education headquarters.
The protest, organised by the Advanced Society for Headmasters and Headmistresses', was against the EC deputation of teachers for booth level officer (BLO) duties, which they said disrupts their teaching duties. After the march, the society submitted twelve demands to senior officials of the education department, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education. General secretary Chandan Maiti said teachers were not bound to perform BLO duties.
"Teachers are being deputed without prior intimation, making it difficult to run schools already dealing with staff shortages. We are also worried about being unfairly penalised for actions we have no connection to," Maiti said.
