• Chairman railway board inspects various sections of the East-West corridor

  • The chairman of Railway Board, Satish Kumar visited and inspected various sections of the East-West Corridor of the Kolkata Metro Railway today.

    The Railway Board chairman spent a large part of the day inspecting various parts of the Green Line, examining in detail the passenger amenities and the readiness of the stretch. As the remaining leg of the East-West metro corridor is awaiting an inaugural, Mr Kumar is said to have checked the preparedness of this metro network today.

    He inspected various stretches between Howrah Maidan, Sealdah and Sector V of the corridor.

    Before the chairman, Braj Mohan Agrawal, member traction and rolling stock, MTRS, Railway Board also visited Metro Railway yesterday. During his visit, he inspected the stretch from Jatin Das Park to Noapara of the Blue Line in a Metro rake. After reaching Noapara, he held a high-level meeting with senior officers of metro railway. He inspected Noapara Carshed and Noapara to Jai Hind Biman Bandar stretch of Yellow Line in a Metro with senior Metro officials. He also inspected Jai Hind Biman Bandar Metro station where Metro officials apprised him of different passenger amenities going to be provided at the station.

    The visit of the Railway Board officials and consecutive inspections has triggered anticipation of the final commissioning of the remaining stretch of the East-West Metro between Esplanade and Sealdah. With the expected visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kolkata next week, it is being anticipated by many that the Esplanade-Sealdah stretch along with the section between Noapara and Biman Bandar could see a green light next week. According to an official of the city Metro, the stretch is ready for commercial services and further preparations are in full swing. However, as the date of PM’s visit is yet to be officially confirmed, the date of inauguration of the much-awaited Metro networks is yet to be finalised, according to sources.
