Kolkata: Vidyasagar Setu is likely to be shut for 24 hours from 9 pm on Saturday to 9 pm on Sunday for repair work. Police plan to divert smaller vehicles through Howrah Bridge and goods carriers through Nivedita Bridge and BT Road.
The bridge with be closed to facilitate the lifting and placement of steel portal beams near Santragachhi bus terminus on Kona Expressway and replacement of stay cables, holding-down cables and bearings of the bridge.
But a Nabanna official said the final decision on the shutdown would be taken on Wednesday, given objections from the Howrah Police, who pointed at a religious procession and rush of vehicles owing to the extended weekend.
