  • Kolkata: A 29-year-old resident of Uma Kanta Sen Lane in north Kolkata, Priyanka Saha, lodged a complaint at Chitpore PS alleging she lost more than Rs 10 lakh in an online investment fraud. Saha said she was duped by fraudsters who posed as officials from a Telegram group, promising lucrative returns on investments in stocks and I-T benefits. The fraudsters contacted her via WhatsApp, using a pre-activated SIM number, and persuaded her to join a Telegram group by paying a registration fee of Rs 20,008. The payment was made from her State Bank of India account at the Paik Para, Northern Avenue Branch.

They siphoned a total of Rs 10,40,695 from her account. Despite promises of high returns, Saha received no interest, realising only later that she fell victim to a scam.

    Cops are probing the details of transactions. Saha has provided documentation of all the transactions, which are being examined as part of the investigation.
