Deliberate attack, my wife could have been killed, victim’s dad lodges plaint

Kolkata: The RG Kar victim's father e-mailed a complaint to Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Verma on Tuesday, alleging a "pre-planned" and "deliberate attack" on his wife by police personnel last Saturday. He claimed that cops targeted his wife in such a manner that "she could have been killed". Cops reiterated that they examined every drone, CCTV, video, and photo collected from the spot but have not found any evidence yet to prove the charges. They also made a public appeal for any video or photo that can corroborate the charges.
The father also accused KP of subjecting him to "extreme harassment" over where to lodge the FIR, despite the provision for a Zero FIR, which allows any police station to register a case and forward it to appropriate jurisdiction. According to him, after the plaint at Shakespeare Sarani PS, the OC said the incident did not fall under their jurisdiction and redirected him to Park Street PS. Park Street police allegedly referred him to New Market PS, which in turn allegedly sent him back to Shakespeare Sarani PS. Frustrated, he mailed the complaint to CP Verma. Joint CP (HQ) Meeraj Khalid, on Tuesday, said a GD has been registered and that an inquiry has begun based on the father's plaint. "New Market PS has lodged a GD, and an inquiry is on as per rules of BNSS. If the allegation has any truth, an FIR will follow," said Khalid. "I am not saying a final word, but no police action around her is visible anywhere," he said. "If anyone has any evidence of police action on her, we will request them to share the same," said Khalid. On the injuries, Khalid said it was the "most unfortunate moment.

"Cops deliberately attacked me and my wife with batons. While I managed to protect myself, my wife suffered deep injuries to her head and back, and her ‘sankha' were broken when a policeman struck her," he said. A senior officer said, "We are tracking her movement from Indian Museum gates to Kyd Street crossing and from there to Park Street crossing. There was one small shadow area in her route, the portion below Park Street flyover that the drone could not capture. What transpired underneath is something we are keeping in mind," he said.
