Lawyers stir over shifting of court in new building

Hundreds of lawyers of Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court have agitated and brought out a rally and laid siege to Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) office in Durgapur today demanding immediate opening of the new court building.
The advocates have alleged that the present old and dilapidated court building is a life threat to everybody, including lawyers, people and judges. Though the construction of a new court building started in 2021 still the court building has not been inaugurated.
Soumen Mitra, senior advocate of Durgapur Bar Association said the bar association along with the local advocates have gheraoed the ADDA Bhawan today in City Centre of Durgapur in protest.
“There is very little work remaining but the shifting has been delayed for a long time. Any day anything could happen in the dilapidated building. The ADDA is entrusted for construction of the new Durgapur court building so we agitated in front of the office and submitted deputation,” he added.
The officials of ADDA have talked with the lawyers and the siege was withdrawn at last. However, the lawyers said that if the shifting is not very soon, bigger agitation will take place in future.
