The Centre for Research and Policy, Communication and Society (CRPCS) was formally unveiled on Sunday.
At the inauguration, CRPCS chairperson Abhijit Roy emphasized on the necessity for “a space for research” and expressed a commitment to ensuring that “arts should get as much space as social sciences.”
The Centre aims to provide a platform for independent, interdisciplinary research in the social sciences and humanities, with a special focus on India.
Shibashish Chatterjee, founding director of CRPCS, said the centre would bridge the gap between academic inquiry and practical applications. “Too often, important insights remain confined between the pages of academic journals, disconnected from the policy and community conversations that would give them life. We want to change that,” Chatterjee said, adding that Indian scholarship “must be a part of global conversation.”
A new website was also launched wherein the homepage features overview of CRPCS’s workstreams, including publications, fellowships, and information on internship opportunities. The collaborations page showcases CRPCS’s association with the Transit-Asia Research Network (TARN), a research network focused on exploring the geopolitical changes and challenges in Asia and around the world.
