• Bus catches fire near airport, 2 hurt in scramble to exit

  • Kolkata: Two passengers suffered minor injuries when a Garia-bound South Bengal State Transport Corporation bus from Barasat caught fire near the hotel crossing close to Kolkata airport on Sunday.

    Police said a short-circuit triggered the blaze while about 25–30 passengers were on board. As flames spread, passengers scrambled to exit, leading to two people sustaining minor injuries.

    Two fire engines rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. "All passengers could be safely evacuated," said an officer of Bidhannagar traffic police.

    Cops said they are investigating the cause of the short-circuit. Traffic movement in the area was briefly affected during firefighting operations.
