Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today laid the foundation stone for an Atithi Nibas (guest house) and a vehicle parking facility at Jayrambati. The initiative is part of a broader development plan for the Jayrambati-Kamarpukur region, deeply rooted in the spiritual legacy of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda.
The newly-formed Jayrambati-Kamarpukur Development Board, chaired by Swami Lokattaranda Maharaj and other members, has been granted Rs 10 crore by the state government for the upgradation, renovation, and beautification of Jayrambati, Kamarpukur, and surrounding areas.
Swami Lokattaranda Maharaj expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief minister for her continued support, stating that the state government has consistently extended help in various social welfare initiatives led by the spiritual community.
Earlier in the day, chief minister Banerjee visited flood-affected areas in Goghat, where she personally served khichdi to victims. Her humble and compassionate gesture moved many, who opened up to her about their hardships.
Speaking at Kamarpukur, the chief minister highlighted the enduring relevance of the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda—emphasising religious tolerance, unity, brotherhood, respect for one’s mother tongue, and the preservation of Bengal’s rich cultural heritage.
“We are all brothers and sisters,” she said. “Let us not be misled by divisive forces. God is one, known by different names. All are equal in the eyes of the divine. Provoking communal unrest by exploiting religious sentiments is not only foolish but also harmful to our peace-loving society.”
She further underscored the pride Bengalis take in their language and heritage. “Bengali is a rich language. Our saints, monks, poets, revolutionaries, and leaders have made immense contributions to both pre- and post-independence India. They spoke in Bengali, and their ideas were later translated into other languages, enriching the entire nation. To dishonour Bengal and the Bengali language is both wrong and unconstitutional.”
