Abhishek asks party leaders to work for party, bury hatchets
The Statesman | 6 August 2025
Calling the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as silent invisible rigging, Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee urged party workers to ensure that the name of not a single genuine voter is deleted from the voter list.
Mr Banerjee today held a virtual meeting with the party leaders, including the MPs, MLAs and other functionaries. Around 9,000 leaders up to the booth level attended the meeting. Subrata Bakshi, state president of Trinamul Congress was also present at the meeting.
Mr Banerjee said SIR implementation and an attempt to force NRC through the backdoor by the BJP will be foiled by the party. “We are not going to accept the BJP’s arbitrary way of deleting the genuine names with the help of the Election Commission of India. We will fight till the end,” he said.
Mr Banerjee said the booth president of the booths where Trinamul Congress candidates had lost by 100 votes or more will be replaced. “Only those who work seriously will get a promotion. Bury your hatchets and work seriously for the party,” he said. He said in 80,000 booths two booth-level meetings will have to be held in the next two months. “There is no place for complacency in the party and pull up your socks to ensure victory of the candidates in the 2026 Assembly election,” he said.
Mr Banerjee made it very clear that the party is not going to tolerate “any anti-party statement. One should give up the ‘I-centric’ attitude and work for the party. Actions will be taken against those whose attitude and ego will affect the interest of the party. Trinamul Congress is a disciplined party and no one flouting the discipline of the party will be allowed in the party.”
Mr Banerjee became the leader of Trinamul Congress Parliamentary Party replacing Sudip Bandyopadhyay yesterday.
The way Mr Banerjee conducted the meeting it is evident that he will play a major role in 2026 Assembly election from the selection of candidates to conducting the campaign.
Abhishek said: “More than Rs 1.75 lakh crore have been withheld by BJP but we are not dependent on them. Money for Awas Yojana has been given by state govt in two instalments. We went to Delhi to protest. Our women MPs were assaulted.”
On the APAS , Abhishek said, “Amader Para, Amader Samadhan is a historic step, first-of-its kind by any govt after Independence.”
Abhishek also raised the issue of Delhi Police letter where Bengali was termed Bangladeshi and slammed BJP and Amit Malviya for insulting Bengali. “This is why we call them Bangla birodhi and zamindars. How dare they call Bangla bhasha as Bangladeshi? Not a single MLA of BJP is protesting this insult on Bengal and Bengalis,” said Abhishek.
Subrata Bakshi, who also spoke at the meeting highlighted what Didi had said from 21 July rally dais and even protested at the Gandhi Murti in Kolkata to protest against Bengalis being harassed.
He instructed party workers to be on the ground and interact regularly with the people. He stressed on Amader Para Amader Samadhan and said that leaders have to be on the booths to inform people why the TMC is saying ‘Bangla birodhi bisorjon’.
