AMID A controversy regarding the scheduling of Calcutta University (CU) exams on the foundation day of the Trinamool Congress’s student wing, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), Calcutta University’s interim Vice-Chancellor, Shanta Dutta De, said on Monday that the examinations will proceed as planned on August 28. This date coincides with the foundation day of the TMCP.
On Monday, an emergency syndicate meeting was held on the CU campus, attended by representatives from the West Bengal Higher Education Department.
However, the request from the Higher Education Department to shift the examination was not accepted.
Addressing mediapersons after the meeting, CU interim VC Shanta Dutta De said, “During the emergency syndicate meeting today, the special secretary indicated that the Chief Minister requested a change of date for the examination. However, the majority of the committee decided to keep the examination date as originally scheduled for August 28.
Approximately 30,000 students have already received their exam routine and are mentally preparing for the test. We cannot allow a decision that benefits a few students to negatively impact the majority.”
De previously said that the BCom Semester 4 and BA LLB Semester 4 exams will be held on August 28 as per schedule, despite demands that they be rescheduled as they fall on the same day as the foundation day of the TMCP.
