• Jr docs, med students get police notice

  • Kolkata: The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front (WBJDF) alleged police harassment days before its protests, slated for Aug 8 and 9, coinciding with one year of the RG Kar rape and murder. They said at least six junior doctors and students, who took part in the RG Kar protest last year, had received notices from Kolkata Police, asking them to report to police stations over cases registered against them during the Esplanade agitation in 2024.

"What is the motive of digging up the cases days before we renew our movement on Aug 8 and 9? We will not be intimidated," said anaesthesiologist Debasis Halder of WBJDF. Among the six are Kinjal Nanda, a prominent face of the agitation and medical students at RG Kar, MCH and CNMCH. The notices mentioned unlawful assembly, causing grievous hurt to police and molestation of woman cops. "Police now want to probe cases 10 months after the agitation at Dorina crossing. This is an effort to thwart our events," said anaesthesiologist Aniket Mahata of WBJDF.
