• Abhishek new party leader in LS, replaces Sudip Bandyopadhyay

  • Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamul Congress national general secretary and MP from Diamond Harbour has been appointed as the leader of the party in Lok Sabha.

    He replaced veteran party MP from north Kolkata Sudip Bandyopadhyay. Post the development Kalyan Bandyopadhyay resigned from the post of Trinamul Congress chief whip in Lok Sabha.

    Abhishek over the years has been playing a leading role in the Parliament. He takes part in debates and has criticised the anti-people role of the NDA government. He was a member of the Indian delegation that visited several countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka and other places to create public opinion after 26 people were killed by the terrorists in Pahalgam.

    He is playing a key role in Parliament after Bengali-speaking migrant workers were harassed in the BJP ruled states. He will take part in a dharna at the office of the Election Commission of India along with the members of the INDIA to protest against the deletion of genuine voters in the name of SIR.

    Mr Banerjee has made Diamond Harbour, his Lok Sabha constituency, a model constituency carrying out massive development work including providing the residents of several Assembly segments healthcare facilities.

    Mr Banerjee has also been playing an important role in strengthening the party organisation, right up to the booth level. He has the database of all the booth-level leaders and workers and keeps in touch with them regularly.

    Mr Banerjee, in consultation with Mamata Banerjee, party’s chairperson, will select the candidates for the 2026 Assembly election. He has made it clear and said over and again that those who work seriously will be given tickets and idle workers will be dropped. He will play a key role in the 2026 Assembly election.
