Mamata Banerjee, Trinamul Congress chairperson today instructed the Trinamul MPs to raise the issue on the attack of the Bengali speaking migrant labourers in the BJP-ruled states and foil the saffron party’s attempt to equate Bengali as Bangladeshi language.
She held a virtual meeting with the MPs on Monday evening. Party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was present at the meeting.
The Trinamul Congress chief also wrote in her X handle: “I convened a virtual meeting today with all @AITCofficial MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Given that our Lok Sabha leader, Shri Sudip Bandyopadhyay, is unwell and undergoing medical treatment, the MPs have unanimously decided to entrust Shri Abhishek Banerjee with the responsibility of leading the party in the Lok Sabha as the leader of the party until Sudip da returns to good health.
“We pray for Sudip da’s swift recovery and look forward to his continued guidance, enriched by his experience and deep knowledge of parliamentary proceedings.”
At the meeting, Mamata also told her MPs that Abhishek will henceforth take a call on the raising of the issues and the MPs should consult him before raising issues, said sources.
The MPs were also conveyed that from now on, Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar will be assisting Abhishek inthe matters in the Parliament.
The party chairperson is supposed to have also conveyed her satisfaction with the functioning of the Rajya Sabha MPs and said that the party is mulling forming a disciplinary committee for the MPs. This could be after the ugly spats in the open between some of the LS MPs earlier, which has sullied the party’s image in the Parliament.
She is supposed to have briefly mentioned to the MPs for a larger fight in the Parliament on the Special Intensive Revision and the atrocities on Bengali-speaking migrants.
It may be mentioned that Miss Banerjee will lead a march to protest against the attack and harassment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in Jhargram on 6 August. Earlier, she took part in a similar march in Bolpur in Birbhum.
Miss Banerjee also said that in the name of Special Intensive Revision of the voter’s list, the Election Commission is attempting to delete the genuine voters. “They have deleted the names of 70 lakh voters in Bihar and will try to do this in Bengal. We will have to be vigilant. The INDIA alliance will gherao the ECI’s office in Delhi on 8 August and Trinamul Congress will be a part to it,” she said.
