• Govt starts shuttle busses between Metro stations for passengers

  • The state transport department today launched shuttle bus services between Shahid Khudram and Kavi Subhash metro stations to ease out last mile connectivity for citizens commuting between the two stations.

The initiative comes in the background of the closure of Kavi Subhash Metro station to passenger services. Last week, the Metro authorities decided to withdraw services after a few cracks were observed in some columns on the up platform of Kavi Subhash Metro station.

The cracks are being suspected to have resulted from uneven settlement of the platform during the record rainfall that the city registered last month. Not willing to take any chance, the authorities withdrew Metro services to and from Kavi Subhash station as a measure of precaution for the safety of passengers. The train services on the Blue Line are being operated between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar stations in both up and down directions.

The withdrawal of services from Kavi Subhash which served as a crucial point of connectivity to the main parts to numerous commuters has brought a difficult commute to the regular passengers, particularly office goers and workers and even students. For the last few days, autos plying in the route brought some relief to the commuters. However, during peak evening and morning hours, the commuters are still claiming to have a tough time.

Considering the demand, the state transport department introduced shuttle bus services today to provide ease of travel to the commuters during peak rush hours. The buses are to ply between 8 am and 11 am in the morning and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the evening hours. During the period, the buses would be operated at a gap of 20 minutes. The department has allotted three buses dedicated for the service. The fare has been fixed as Rs 10 for the journey.
