Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of Kannaipur panchayat member Pintu Chakraborty. Biswanath Pramanik from the Sason area of Barasat, and Dipak Mondal from Barasat, both were identified as contract killers by the police. They were allegedly hired for Rs 3 lakh by Biswanath Das, a resident of Kannaipur gram panchayat. Das was arrested in Belgharia, where he had taken refuge at his sister’s house, said police.
On Wednesday night, near Konnagar Auto Stand, Pintu Chakraborty, a member of Konnagar’s Kannaipur gram panchayat and a gas agency dealer, was attacked without warning by a group of miscreants armed with sharp weapons.
The attack occurred as Pintu stepped out of his gas agency office to head home. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to DCP Arnab Biswas, prior disputes over the purchase and sale of land in Konnagar had created serious animosity between Chakraborty and Das. The murder was allegedly planned in advance, with the two hired killers staying at Das’s house for two days before executing the attack.
DCP Biswas stated that the investigation is still in its early stages, and police suspect that others may also have been involved.
