The Kolkata Metro Railway is considering plans to repair and reconstruct the affected parts of Kavi Subhash Metro station at a cost of around Rs 9 crore.
The city Metro is said to have floated an e-tender for the work at Kavi Subhash Metro station that serves as a nerve centre to thousands of commuters flocking towards various parts of Kolkata from the southern fringes and suburbs.
On Monday, the Metro authorities decided to withdraw services after a few cracks were observed in some columns on the up platform of Kavi Subhash Metro station. According to Kolkata Metro Railway, the cracks are suspected to have resulted from uneven settlement of the platform in the recent heavy rains. The station has been closed for commuters for an indefinite period with authorities carrying out repair works on a war footing. As commuters boarding points in the Up line are said to be close to the affected area, as a measure of precaution for the safety of passengers, Metro services to and from Kavi Subhash station have been withdrawn by the carrier while train services on the Blue Line is to operate between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar stations in both up and down directions.
However, the entire station need not be razed or reconstructed. As learnt from sources, the authorities are considering carrying out the works only in the affected stretches. For the complete repair works, the carrier is said to have floated e-tender. As learnt from sources, the entire repair and reconstruction work of the crack affected area might take about nine months time.
