On 19-20 July, the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Kolkata set a remarkable precedent by hosting Comicverse 2025 — the first educational institution in Eastern India to launch a comics and cartoon culture, ai based art, creativity, and gaming festival of such scale, showcasing using comics, cartoons and games as a innovation in teaching learning pedagogy.
The two-day event became a vibrant mix of competitions and creative showcases. From the AI art contest and anime art contest, which spotlighted the fusion of imagination and technology, to the high-octane gaming arena, the fest resonated with energy, talent, and innovation.
The treasure hunt challenged the participants’ intellect, challenging their wit and teamwork, while the Cosplay Carnival transformed the campus into a live canvas of characters and creativity.
A key highlight was the panel discussion on creativity, comics, cartoons and pedagogy, where experts explored how comics and visual narratives can revolutionize the teaching-learning process — a theme that resonated deeply with Comicverse’s core vision.
The Rising Star award ceremony felicitated renowned YouTubers and emerging creators, adding further prestige to the event.
Graced by actor Anindya Sengupta, Rishav Basu and e-sports tycoon S82L, Comicverse 2025 reflected the vision of Prof. Dr Satyajit Chakrabarti, director of IEM, whose leadership emphasised integrating comics, culture, and technology into education. Dr Satyajit Chakrabarti commented: “The main aim of Comicverse 2025 is to bring innovative teaching learning by using comics, cartoons and games into mainstream higher education, this will not only help millions of students learn though concepts easily through comics, cartoons and games but will also be useful for startups to use comics in marketing their products and showcasing their startup journey”.
