  • Hectic work is on to complete the stage opposite Victoria House where the annual Martyrs’ Day meeting on 21 July will be held.

Manoj Kumar Verma, city police commissioner, along with senior officers visited the site and inspected the security arrangements. Trinamul Congress leaders, including spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar accompanied Mr Verma.

The first batch of Trinamul Congress workers and leaders from north Bengal like North and South Dinajpur and Alipurduar, who will attend the Martyr’s Day programme, arrived in the city and were put up at the Central Park in Salt Lake.

The party supporters will be put up at various places like Gitanjali Stadium, Netaji Indoor stadium and several guest houses and dharamshalas. Trinamul Congress leaders have been assigned the job of looking after the party workers, who would come from various districts. Doctors, para-medical staff and ambulances have been kept ready at the makeshift camps to face any emergency.

Like every year, Abhishek Banerjee, party’s national general secretary, is supposed to visit the camps to oversee the arrangements.
