  • Aditi Chaudhary has assumed charge as the new Commissioner of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC), the second-largest civic body in the state after Kolkata.

She succeeds fellow IAS officer Raju Mishra, who previously held the dual roles of commissioner of AMC and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA).

Mr Mishra has recently been transferred to the position of secretary in the commerce and industries department.

Mr Mishra formally handed over the responsibilities to Ms Chaudhary in the presence of the mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation, Bidhan Upadhyaya, and chairman Amar Nath Chatterjee during a farewell ceremony.

Ms Chaudhary, a 2014 batch IAS officer, previously served as special secretary in the department of women and child development and social welfare.

“I have just taken charge, and it will take some time to understand the situation before I can plan my projects,” she told the media.

Interestingly, both the current and immediate past chief secretaries of the state, Manoj Pant and Hari Krishna Dwivedi, had earlier served as CEOs of ADDA early in their careers.
