Engg college hosts international conference on computing

The department of computer science and engineering of Dr B C Roy Engineering College (BCREC), Durgapur, hosts CIACON 2025 – International Conference on Computing, Intelligence and Application. The two-day conference was inaugurated today by chief guest Prof Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar, former director IIT, Delhi and emeritus professor of department of electrical engineering, IIT, Bombay.
Dr Anupam Basu, former director, NIT, Durgapur was present in the programme as the guest of honour. Prof Saikat Maitra, chief advisor of Dr B C Roy Society, Tarun Bhattacharya, Jernail Singh, the general secretary and treasurer of Dr B C Roy Society were also present.
The conference brings together leading minds from academia, industry and research with 196 papers being presented in both online and offline modes.
Prof Shevgaonkar said in his keynote speech that engineers should have societal values and use the emerging technologies like AI for the development of human life. He also said “AI is replacing human minds, which is very dangerous. AI should be allowed to work as a tool to enrich society. Technology should be green and used for sustainable development keeping in view the limited natural resources and increasing population of the world.”
